Recipe Development

Mount Mary University dietetic students receive coaching from local chefs and dietitians during Healthy Shelves recipe development. Students are challenged to develop  heart and diabetes-friendly recipes that utilize ingredients on the Healthy Shelves Food Drive Shopping List. Healthy Shelves recipes are low-cost, easy to prepare, contain no more than nine ingredients, and follow the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. That means that they are low in salt and added sugar, and high in fiber and other health-promoting nutrients. In other words, they may also help to prevent those diseases!

Healthy Shelves recipes use common ingredients, require no special equipment beyond a stove, oven, or crockpot, and are taste-approved by clients in southeastern Wisconsin food pantries.
